FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)


 

·       If I have a runny nose, will you give me Kleenex?

o   No, if you need personal items such as Kleenex, Band-Aids, Q tips, safety pins, Chap-stick or Sanitary supplies, you should bring them from home and keep them in your backpack, purse or pocket.

·       What supplies do I need to have to be successful in this class?

o   You will need to have standard sized lined paper, #2 pencils (more than one), an eraser, pens (more than one and they should be black or dark blue) and occasionally colored pencils.

·       Do I need a computer at home?

o   No, but It would be helpful.  All assignments and grades are posted on-line but there are computers available on campus for your use.   A workbook with all of the worksheets will also be supplied to you.  Extra credit is given for assignments that are typed

  • What should I leave at home to help me be more successful?
    • Anything that plays music, earphones, telephones (we have 3,800 students on campus, surely you can find someone to talk with) and any hat not approved to be on campus.  All of the above items must be out of sight when you are in my room or they will be confiscated and sent to the front office.
  • Can I bring food in the classroom?
    • Never.

·       Do I have to be in class when the bell is done ringing?

o   Always.  If you are not in the room and on the way to your desk you will go to tardy sweep (no exceptions). 

·       Do I have to complete my homework or can I turn it in half done?

o   Only work that is complete will be accepted.

·       Can I do my homework in pencil?

o   Never, all homework will be completed in black or dark blue ink (markers are not acceptable).

·       Can I use an ink pen to take a Scantron test?

o   Sure, but the Scantron machine will mark all of your answers wrong so you will get a zero.

§  Do I have to put my name, date and period on all my assignments?

o   Yes, that would be a good idea.  There will be a 2 point deduction for anyone not using the correct format.

·       Can I keep my backpack at my desk?

o   No, when you come in the room, look on the whiteboard and see what you will need that day.  Get it out then hang your backpack on the hooks at the front of the room.  If you don't have a backpack, place all books, skateboards, guitars and anything else not listed on the whiteboard on the small table also at the front of the room.

·       Is cheating allowed?

o   Never, if you get caught, all people involved will get a zero.  Working together to come up with one answer is also cheating (some teachers call it "cooperative learning".

·       If I ask, can I find out what my grade is?

o   No, current grades are posted on the internet.  You are responsible to check your grade for accuracy and report any mistakes in a timely manner.

·       Can I go to the bathroom?

o   Sure, before school, at snack, during passing periods, at lunch and after school.  If the period is longer than 50 minutes (block day) you can go in the middle of the period but it will cost you 5 of the extra credit points I give you.

·       Do you take points off for bad behavior?

o   Yes, they come off 2 at a time from your extra credit points (20 each semester).

·       Do you assign detention?

o   Yes, also I write referrals and call parents.

·       Will there be extra credit to save me if I decide to not do the assigned work?

o   No.

·       If I do all the homework will I pass?

o   Yes, as long as you do the best you can on the test.  You can fail the test but you will still pass.

·       How much homework will there be?

o   At the most, two assignments a week but many times less.

§  Does no always mean no?

o   Yes.
